Swiss federal agencies are targets of nuisance DDoS.

In a recent cyber incident, several federal agencies in Switzerland found themselves targeted by distributed denial-of-service (DDoS) attacks, rendering their public-facing websites temporarily inaccessible. The orchestrated attacks, attributed to the Russian hacktivist group NoName057(16), were evidently more about psychological warfare than data theft. The modus operandi involved flooding the websites with a barrage of overwhelming requests, causing disruption and inconvenience. Swiss authorities, anticipating potential threats coinciding with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy's visit to the World Economic Forum in Davos, had issued prior warnings. Swift action by the Swiss National Cyber Security Centre enabled the timely detection and mitigation of these disruptive attacks.

The DDoS attacks, while disruptive, did not compromise any sensitive data or systems, emphasizing the group's intent to disrupt services and create a psychological impact rather than engage in traditional cyber espionage. The Swiss National Cyber Security Centre's efficient response underscores the importance of proactive cybersecurity measures and collaborative efforts to safeguard critical infrastructure against evolving cyber threats. The incident serves as a reminder of the need for continuous vigilance and preparedness in the face of persistent cybersecurity challenges.
